How To Rock The Double Dutch Braid

Hello Dah-lings! From peek-a-boo braids to feathered fishtails, 2016 has distinguished itself as the year of the braid. We haven’t seen braids take over like this since Britney Spears released her “Baby One More Time” music video in the 90’s! And while we certainly won’t forget those famous pigtails, there’s a new braid in town now and it's making headlines all on its own - the Double Dutch Braid. Not only is this style functional, low-maintenance, and totally chic, it works for all hair lengths and types. It’s no wonder this hairstyle is taking the world by storm! Hop aboard the braid train, ladies, we’re teaching you how to master this sassy style.

Step 1: We recommended applying a texturizing product to your strands before braiding. Both our Blow Dry Lotion and Texture Styling Crème will give you the touchable texture with plenty of pliability and will keep your hair from slipping while you style.

Step 2: Start with a clean center part from your hairline all the way to the nape of your neck. Clip one side up and out of the way, so you can focus on one side at a time.

Step 3: Take a small section at the front of the unclipped side of your hair and begin a three-stand braid, going backwards. Instead of looping the hair over each section as you do with a normal braid, loop the hair under each section. This will give you the 3-D, defined look that characterizes Dutch braids.

Step 4: Turn the braid into an inside out French braid by adding a small piece of hair each time you loop the hair under.

Step 5: Continue adding pieces of hair until all the hair from the section is braided. Finish the three-strand braid all the way to the ends of your hair and secure with a hair tie.

Step 6: Repeat on other side.

If you’re new to the braiding world, try practicing on a friend first. Weaving together all those strands can be tricky, but with a little practice you’ll be a double Dutch expert in no time!
