Hairstyles to Withstand the Weather

Bonjour, dah-lings! Now the weather outside may be frightful, but that doesn’t mean we’re doomed to four long months of hat hair and hoodies! There is nothing more frustrating than spending 40 minutes on your hair only to have it ruined before you can say “El Nino.” Gale force winds, be damned: we’ve got your top three hairstyles to withstand the weather.

Wind: Bundle Up With Braids Of all the elements your hair encounters, wind is one of the worst. Detangling causes breakage and damage that can be tough to undo, not to mention, painful. Instead, try limiting the movement in your style that causes tangles with a bundled up braid! We love Swiss braids (think Heidi style) for their locked-in lasting power. The more contained the tresses, the more solid the style. Part hair as you would normally, and secure two pigtails on each side. Braid the right pigtail all the way to the ends and secure with an elastic band. Wrap the braid across the top of your head like a headband, and secure behind your right ear with a bobby pin. Repeat the same process on the left side. Rain: Slicked Back Pony The trick for keeping your hair looking great in the rain (besides avoiding it) is choosing a style that still looks intentional even when it isn’t. Your best bet is a slicked back pony! First, secure hair into a tight ponytail at the crown of your head. For those with straighter strands, create movement and texture in your pony by working a dime-sized amount of Texture Styling Crème. Snow: Low Side Chignon or Side-Swept Scarf Braid Keeping your ears and neck warm when temperatures drop is essential! To maximize your insulation, a low chignon or side-swept braid keeps frostbite at bay. To ace the braid, smooth in one pump of Fluoro5 Elixer Restore and Repair Oil for added shine and softness. Part your hair to one side and gently smooth it back with a comb or brush. Then begin braiding, leaving 1-2 inches at the end. For a chignon, braid all the way down, then wrap the hair around itself into a bun and secure with 2-3 bobby pins. No need to let the weather spoil a great hair day.
