You’re Not Prepping Achieving silky, smooth hair starts long before you switch on your straightener. You’re Using The Wrong Temperature Just because your flat iron goes up to 450 degrees doesn’t mean you should use it that high. Without proper heat, you’ll have to run the flat iron through your stands repeatedly which can be equally damaging and time consuming. For smooth hair without the sizzle, stay in the 300-350 degree range, depending on your hair type and thickness.

You're Flat Ironing Damp Hair If you’re seeing steam when straightening, your strands need a bit more blow dry time.
